Belief Systems

Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. Matthew 8:13

Your happiness is based on your belief system. What you believe is very important to your personal happiness. The central idea is that believing makes it so. I am not talking about religious faith, but simple belief.

The Greatest Teacher ever known, Jesus said in scripture, ―As you have believed so be it done unto you.

So, what is a belief? It’s a feeling of certainty.

Belief systems are formed by the stories we hear to define our reality.

Beliefs are based on hearing. Faith comes by hearing... Every human being, great or small has a belief system. Let me illustrate. The great Einstein had a positive belief system. He believed that we live in a friendly universe. He also believed that the Creator did not play dice with the Universe. We construct our belief systems on stories that make us feel most comfortable. Stories give us meaning and feed our souls the strength we need to thrive in the world.

WISDOM STORIES Most of us do not consciously decide what we‘re going to believe. Instead, often our beliefs are misinterpretations of past events. A good story plants good ideas into your mind and opens your thinking. The following story metaphorically illustrates this. A beggar had been sitting by the side of the road for over thirty years. One day a stranger walked by. "Spare some change?" mumbled the beggar, mechanically holding out his baseball cap. "I have nothing to give you," said the stranger. Then he added, "What's that you are sitting on?" "Nothing," replied the beggar, "Just an old box. I have been sitting on it for as long as I can remember." "Ever look inside?" asked the stranger. "What's the point? There's nothing in there." "Have a look inside," insisted the stranger. The beggar managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw the box was filled with gold.

Jesus taught in parables. A parable is a spiritual store that has a parallel in the natural world. Good stories, also known as parables, create right thinking and help you to open the proverbial box of gold, which is your mind. Once your thinking is right, your believing will be right. When your believing is right, your talking or affirmation will be right. When your affirmation is right, your results will be right. The whole cycle starts with ideas, thoughts obtained from the story‘ you‘ve read or heard. Your belief system has the power to create or power to destroy your life of happiness.

Affirmations for happiness:

  • I have a positive attitude.

  • I feel healthy, wealthy, and wise.

  • I focus on what I can control. ...

  • I live the best life, in the best home, and I enjoy my life.
