The Entrepreneur! Why Christians Should Go Into Business

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. Luke 19:13 (KJV)

The Passion Translation (TPT)

Before he departed he summoned his ten servants together and charged them, 'I am entrusting each of you with fifty thousand dollars to invest while I am away. Trade with it and put the money to work until I return.

In Strong's concordance, the Greek for occupy is word 4231 which means: To transact business, trade. From pragma; to busy oneself with, i.e. To trade. Conduct business [with this] (Pragmateusasthe)

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LORD'S SERVANTS

The word “occupy” means to be busy, it literally means “to carry on business by trading." The Lord's meaning is not difficult.

He is telling them to “TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS” and KEEP BUSY UNTIL I RETURN.

Why should Christians engage in business? Here’s a simple list of why:

  1. God owns everything. He owns everything by virtue of creation and redemption. He created and ordained us to rule and subdue the world – that includes business.

  2. Money is not evil. The love of money is the root of all evil not money itself. Money is neutral. It stands and falls on the goodness and evilness of the heart of the one who possesses it. When the heart is good, money becomes good. When the heart is evil, money becomes evil.

  3. We cannot serve God and Money at the same time but we can let our money serve us as we serve God. ( Luke 16:9)
